Important Facts About Asbestos and Asbestos Removal |
| |
What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is the name for a group of naturally occurring minerals that separate into strong fibers. The fibers are heat-resistant, extremely thin and extremely durable, and, because of these qualities, asbestos has become very useful in construction and industry. In your living or work place it may or may not pose a health hazard to the occupants. When it can be crushed by hand pressure the material is considered FRIABLE. In this condition, fibers can be released and pose a health risk. However, as long as the material is kept stable and well-sealed, the material is considered safe until damaged in some way. |
| |
Why Worry About Asbestos Exposure?
If you haven't been exposed to asbestos, you have no reason to worry about mesothelioma or cancer. But how can you tell if you have been exposed or not? If you have you should get checked out, Asbestos exposure by inhaling loose asbestos fibers is associated with various forms of lung disease. Though fire-resistant, its extremely fine fibers are easily inhaled, and exposure to them over a period of years has been linked to cancers of the lung or lung-cavity lining and to asbestosis, a severe lung impairment. |

Important Facts About Mold Contamination and Mold Removal |
| |
What is Mold?
Molds are part of the natural environment. Mold can be classified as fungi that can be found inside or outside. Outdoors, molds play an important role in nature and we are not concerned with it's abilities for the purpose of this site. It's the Indoors we are concerned with. Mold growth should be avoided. Problems may arise when mold starts eating away at materials, affecting the look, smell, and possibly wood-framed buildings, affecting the structural integrity of the buildings. Molds can grow on virtually any substance, as long as moisture or water, oxygen, and an organic source are present. Molds reproduce by creating tiny spores (viable seeds) that usually cannot be seen without magnification. |
| |
| Mold spores continually float through the indoor and outdoor air. Molds are usually not a problem unless mold spores land on a damp spot and begin growing. They digest whatever they land on in order to survive. There are molds that grow on wood, paper, carpet, foods and insulation, while other molds feast on the everyday dust and dirt that gather in the moist regions of a building. When excessive moisture or water accumulates indoors, mold growth often will occur, particularly if the moisture problem remains uncorrected. While it is impossible to eliminate all molds and mold spores, controlling moisture can control indoor mold growth. |

Mold Removal and Remediation Plan.
Remediation includes both the identification and correction of the conditions that permit mold growth, as well as the steps to safely and effectively remove mold damaged materials. Before planning the remediation assess the extent of the mold problem. Follow the recommendations in EPA's publication, “Mold Remediation in Schools and Commercial Buildings,” or other guidelines developed by professional or governmental organizations. The remediation plan should include steps to permanently correct the mold problem. The plan should cover the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. It also should include steps to carefully contain and remove building materials affected by the mold in a manner that will prevent further contamination. Removal plans may vary greatly depending on the size and complexity of the job, and may require revision if circumstances change or new facts are discovered. If you think the mold is coming from the air ducts, then a good vent cleaning ,might be in order with special safe chemicals to rid the ducts of contaminants. While the removal is taking place it is important to keep the safety of others as a top priority. At AMG our fully trained technicians work in professional manner to ge the job done safe and sound.

In 1996 a federal law was passed that requires individuals receive certain information before renting, buying, or renovating homes or businesses built prior to1978. Sellers have to disclose known information on lead-based paint hazards before selling a house or industrial property. Sales contracts will include a federal form about lead-based paint in the building. Buyers will have up to 10 days to check for lead paint hazards and they should do so within this timeframe since this is a very serious and dangerous issue. |

If not detected early, children with high levels of lead in their bodies can suffer from: damage to the brain and nervous system, behavior and learning problems (such as hyperactivity), slowed growth, hearing problems and headaches can arise from lead paint exposure.
High Lead Paint Levels are Dangerous for Adults too.
Lead is also harmful to adults. Adults can suffer from difficulties during pregnancy and other reproductive problems for both men and women.
